I just finished a book called “The new market wizards”. There is a good quote on Zen and trading. I think it applies to finance and life in general.
“In trading, just as in archery, whenever there is effort, force, straining, struggle or trying, it is wrong. You are out of sync; you are out of harmony with the market. The perfect trade is one that requires no effort”.
It does not mean there is no effort in preparing for investing, actually there are a lot of hard work goes into understanding the market and know the right portfolio balance and approach. But once you have a system, it is important to let go and just internally let the system work. I think life works the same way, do the best to prepare, but let the result flow in by itself…

Feb was a big month for my old Cisco investment portfolio. 2 of my 2001 investments were acquired last month, making very nice returns for Cisco. In essence, out of my 4 investments made in 2000 – 2001, 3 out of 4 have been acquired at a high premium. I could do very well if I invested through my own fund…Looking back on some of these investments, I think a lot of the success factors come down to really know the technology and market, but more importantly is to really know the entrepreneurs you invest in and have the courage to stick with your conviction. Of course, having a little luck on the side helps a great deal
